Team China secures second group victory at Sudirman Cup


The Chinese badminton squad is keeping up the momentum at the ongoing 2023 BWF Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. On Tuesday, Team China secured its second group A victory after winning over Singapore 5-0.
World No 1 mixed doubles pair Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong won Team China the first point on Tuesday by beating Hee Yong Kai Terry and Tan Wei Han Jessica of Singapore 22-20, 21-19. Chinese men's singles ace Shi Yuqi won the second match over Jia Heng Jason Ten 21-10, 21-17
Chinese women's singles ace He Bingjiao won the third match 22-20, 21-15, while young Chinese men's doubles duo Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang won the fourth match 19-21, 21-13, 21-14.
Women's doubles world No 1 pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan won the fifth point.
"Being able to win Team China's first point today is a great boost of confidence to the team," mixed doubles ace Huang said after winning. "So the second player won't be too nervous. Winning today's match was not easy and we have encountered difficult situations today. I believe the experience today will be helpful for the matches to come."
China's men's singles ace Shi told media he needed to make adjustments and keep a positive mentality to face their rivals."The mixed team competition is not easy. The next match, we will face even tougher challenges," Shi said.
Team China will next face Denmark, which boasts men's world No 1 player Viktor Axelsen, on Thursday. The Chinese squad won the opening match on Monday after beating Egypt 5-0.
China is the reigning Sudirman Cup champion and is the most successful team in the event's history, winning 12 of the last 17 editions of the tournament.
