Highest-paid majors IT-related


Almost all of the top 10 highest-paid majors are IT-related for undergraduates of the class of 2022, Yicai reported on Monday citing Mycos report.
Information security-majored graduates with bachelor degrees are paid the most by month at 7,579 yuan ($1,089.75) and those who majored in information engineering, data science, and big data technology and software engineering are paid at 7,157 yuan, 7,074 yuan and 7,056 yuan per month, respectively.
The starting salaries of fresh undergraduates of the above majors are all more than 7,000 yuan, making them top the four highest-paid majors for undergraduates of the class of 2022.
The other well paid majors ranking from 5th to 10th on the highest-paid major list for undergraduates include electronic science and technology, microelectronics science and engineering, network engineering, Internet of Things engineering, electronic information science and technology as well as automation.
The average payments of all top 10 highest-paid majored students graduated for half a year were all above 6,600 yuan, according the report by Mycos.
The job market has a huge demand for high-quality IT talents, and graduates of computer and electronic information related majors have broad employment prospects and development space as IT technology's application scenarios penetrate into all walks of life.
Among 19 non-private sectors in urban areas, professionals in information transmission, software and information technology services were the highest-paid in 2022, with an average annual salary of 220,400 yuan, ranking first among all sectors, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on May 9.
Professionals in the financial industry and scientific research and technology services followed with average annual salary of 174,300 yuan and 163,500 yuan, respectively.
From a longer perspective, network engineering and software engineering have been listed on the top 10 highest-paid undergraduate majors for 10 years in a row, according to employment data of undergraduates from class of 2013 to 2022.
Information engineering and information security have been listed 9 times in the past 10 years, and Internet of Things engineering, electronic science and technology have been listed 7 times.
The major of data science and big data technology, which began to enroll students in 2016, has performed very well in the job market, as a newly added undergraduate major announced by the Ministry of Education in 2015.
Statistics show that from 2015 to 2022, a total of 715 universities nationwide have successfully registered the undergraduate program of this interdisciplinary major, mainly studying the knowledge and skills related to computer science and big data processing technology.
