Changan Automobile launched its overseas strategy on Apr 18 at the ongoing Shanghai auto show, showcasing the carmaker's acceleration toward going abroad and becoming a world-class brand.

Changan Automobile Chairman Zhu Huarong said that the company will promote the global layout of its intelligent and low-carbon products by accelerating the expansion of its product portfolio and production capacity.

According to the strategy, Changan will launch no less than 60 global products by 2030 and develop two models with global sales exceeding 500,000 units and at least two with sales exceeding 300,000 by then.

The company aims to establish a production capacity of more than 500,000 units overseas, with an initial production capacity of 100,000 units in its Thailand plant, which will be increased to 200,000 units in the second phase.

The carmaker will also establish manufacturing bases in Europe and the Americas in the future.

The carmaker plans to establish more than 20 localized marketing organizations in overseas markets and more than 3,000 outlets by 2030.

According to the strategy, Changan will enter more than 90 percent of the worldwide market by 2030. The carmaker will complete its entry into two major regional markets in ASEAN and Europe.

It will invest 4 billion yuan ($580.1 million) in Thailand to establish a global right-hand drive production base, to cover Australia and New Zealand, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and others markets.

"We will complete the layout of major markets in Europe within 2-3 years. By 2030, Changan's sales volume in the European market will surpass 300,000 units," Zhu said.

A full range of Changan's new energy products are on display at the Shanghai auto show, including the S7, SL03, UNI-V iDD, UNI-K iDD, Z6 iDD, and Lumin.

The architectures of the concept cars VIIA and SDA were also showcased, demonstrating the company's strong technical reserves and forward-looking vision, which solidifies the construction of a world-class automobile brand.
