The Ministry of Commerce has called on local commerce authorities to fully recognize the complexity and severity of the current foreign trade situation, while taking effective measures to ensure China's exports this year, said the ministry in an online statement.

Aiming to promote stable and high-quality foreign trade scale and structures that contribute to the national economic growth, and prepare for the upcoming 133rd China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, the ministry held a meeting focusing on foreign trade in Xi'an, Shaanxi province from Thursday to Friday.

Wang Shouwen, vice-minister of commerce and China's international trade representative attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

The meeting called on local governments to fully understand the current complex and challenging foreign trade situation, while recognizing the resilience and potential of China's foreign trade.

In addition to urging local commerce authorities to provide practical policy support to export-oriented companies and help them gain orders, the meeting emphasized the importance of cultivating foreign trade entities, ensuring the export of advantageous products and developing new forms of foreign trade.

The meeting also stressed that it is crucial to stabilize and improve processing trade, continuously expand imports, as well as make good use of open business platforms and trade rules.
