China is poised to lead the world in a new era of green development supported by strategic direction, strong savings and investment capabilities, and existing technological prowess, said a report released on Thursday.

The report, namely Embracing the New Paradigm of Carbon-Neutral Development, was written by a team of authors led by Zhu Min, vice-chairman of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, and Nicholas Stern, chair of the Grantham Research Institute, at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The other authors of the report are based at CCIEE, the LSE, the University of Oxford, Columbia University, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

The report focuses on China's opportunities in achieving carbon neutrality, stating that this does not mean sacrificing economic growth. On the contrary, carbon neutrality can promote growth in many areas, particularly in employment, efficiency improvement, and economic transformation and upgrading.

It said China has unique advantages in green development. Globally, it is expected to transition from a learner and follower of traditional development patterns over the past 40 years to a leader of new development patterns.

According to the report, over the next four decades, China has the potential to lead the world toward a new era of green development. This could make China the driving force of a global sustainable growth.
