Zhou Jiaqi, a 20-year-old food delivery worker, has been hailed a hero after he saved a stranger on the verge of ending his own life on a river bridge in Jiaxing city, East China Zhejiang province.

At around 8:00pm on Jan 26, Zhou noticed a dangerous situation when he rode across a bridge whilst working in Jiashan county.

The man had climbed over the railing and sat on the edge of bridge. Ten meters below his dangling feet is a five-meter-deep river.

Zhou soon realized that something was wrong. Zhou rode away from the man, so he would not alarm him, and called the police for help.

Zhou decided to return to help the man. After returning, Zhou immediately hugged the man tight from behind until the police officers arrived and together they carried the man to a safe place.

The man shared with Zhou that he felt looked down upon in his life. "Who told you that? I would never look down on you. If I did, I would not save you," Zhou responded to him. "Keep living life, it is more important than anything else!" Zhou added.

After the good deed, Zhou's supervisor phoned him, angry that Zhou had not completed his orders in time. Zhou explained the situation to his boss, but was not believed. Right away, a police officer took Zhou's phone and verified his brave deed. "Truly, he has saved a life."

Zhou is from Chongqing and has worked as a delivery man since September last year. Though he has impaired arms - a nerve injury from childhood - he was determined to earn his own living. "I will use my own hands to support myself," he said.

Zhou's heroic deed has won him high praise across the internet. Tens of thousands of netizens left comments after hearing the story, "We need to give more patience and understanding to deliverymen. Maybe they are on their way to save the world," one user wrote. Another added, "His deed warms my heart so much and really makes the world a better place". "The police officers and the delivery man did a great job," said another netizen

Besides praise, Zhou will also receive honorary titles and a financial reward from the local police station and his workplace.
