CCECC delivers 'first of its kind' headquarters in Africa

China Civil Engineering Construction Corp, or CCECC, a subsidiary of State-owned China Railway Construction Corp Ltd, announced on Wednesday that it has completed its headquarters building (phase I) of Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

With a gross floor area of 23,570 square meters, the project consists of administrative offices, an emergency response center, an information center and biological laboratories.

The facility will be the first of its kind in Africa fully equipped with modern administrative, experimental, and other supporting facilities, CCECC said in a statement.

Africa will be able to enhance its disease prevention and monitoring competence, respond faster to epidemic emergencies, and fortify its public health system and capacity, delivering tangible benefits to its people, according to the Chinese company.

The project provided jobs and training courses to more than 1,000 local residents during the construction period.
