Guangdong sees significant trade growth
Guangdong province, China's biggest foreign trader, mainly exported new energy products while purchasing mainly agricultural products from around the world in the first 10 months of the year.
According to a statement released by Guangdong Customs on Wednesday, the province's exports of solar cells has grown by 37.1 percent year-on-year, with lithium ion batteries growing by 47.8 percent year-on-year from January to October. Its exports of electric vehicles reached 2.7 times more than in the same period of 2021.
Guangdong's imports of agricultural products saw year-on-year growth of 12.6 percent in the first 10 months. Grain imports grew by 27 percent year-on-year.
The export growth of new energy products and the surge in agricultural imports helped Guangdong achieve an import and export volume of 6.83 trillion yuan ($976 billion) in the first 10 months, up 1.9 percent year-on-year, Customs said.
Guangdong's foreign trade volume with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the province's biggest trading partner, grew by 10 percent year-on-year to reach more than 1.1 trillion yuan from January to October.
Trade volume with the United States and European Union saw year-on-year growth of 8.6 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively, in the first 10 months.
Guangdong's trade with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, however, had a year-on-year reduction of 9 percent between January and October.
ASEAN, the United States, the EU, Hong Kong and Taiwan are the top five trading partners of Guangdong province.
