Elderly care is a feature of the exhibition booth of Japanese water and housing products company Lixil at this year's China International Import Expo.

American Standard, the brand under Lixil, has demonstrated the walk-in bathtub specially designed for senior consumers. Japanese plumbing fixtures and tiles maker Inax, which is also part of Lixil, showcased bathroom solutions which meet the demand for wheelchair users.

Huang Boping, leader of American Standard China, said that the Chinese elderly group's demand for accessible, secure and clean toilets and bathroom facilities has significantly increased over the past few years.

Bai Yongguang, leader of Inax & LKT China, said that there is a lot to learn from Japan's experiences in addressing the elderly's need for specifically designed bathroom facilities, as the country has grown into an aging society earlier than China.

In general, Lixil has been attaching greater importance to the elderly group's needs mainly due to the aging of the Chinese society, said Tao Lin, senior vice-president of Lixil Group and CEO of Lixil Water Technology for Greater China.

"It is our responsibility to take the lead and address the changes in the industry," she said.

Lixil has been present at the CIIE five years in a row and has signed up for the exhibition next year.

"Lixil has deeply felt China's determination to deepen reforms and improve government services, providing a conducive environment for investment and building an open economy. Lixil is fully confident in the prospects of China's future economic growth. China will continue to be a strategic market with great significance for Lixil, and we will continue to fulfill our long-term commitment to China," said Tao.
