Representatives from the cities of Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province and La Plata in Argentina attended an online conference on Oct 19 to discuss further exchanges.

Pan Qiang, director of the foreign affairs office of the Nantong municipal people's government, shared about the city's latest economic and social development.

Although Nantong and La Plata are thousands of miles apart, they share similarities in history, culture, city layout, and port logistics, said Pan.

He expressed hope that the two sides will use the conference as an opportunity to expand and deepen their exchanges in more fields.

He then proposed the establishment of an information communication mechanism and the formulation of an exchange plan for regular communication.

Pan also suggested that the two sides should support the major events held by each other and, when necessary, send delegations to visit each other.

Ji Xiaofei, deputy director of Nantong municipal bureau of commerce, noted that Nantong is experiencing fast development and said that he expects to enhance economic and trade exchanges with Argentina.

Luciano Tanto Clement, consul general of Argentina in Shanghai, said that Nantong and La Plata have cooperation opportunities in food, alcoholic beverage, and port logistics, and that the consulate general is willing to facilitate the establishment of sister-city relations between them.

Deputy secretary-general of La Plata Tomás Balbino then spoke about the city's basic situation, saying that La Plata is happy to forge friendly relations with Nantong. He also hopes that the two cities will further expand their exchanges and cooperation in trade, culture, and industrial parks.
