China Unicom said on Thursday that it will take measures to actively safeguard its US branch's legitimate rights and interests, and pay close attention to the development of the situation.

The comments came after the US Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, named China Unicom (Americas) as an alleged threat to US national security earlier this week.

China Unicom said its overseas operations are strictly in accordance with the laws and regulations of the countries or regions where its businesses operate.

China Unicom (Americas) has always been operating in accordance with US laws and regulations. In the past 20 years, it has provided customers with global comprehensive telecommunications services and solutions, and has become a trusted partner for customers, China Unicom said.

The FCC move overgeneralized the concept of national security and harmed China Unicom's (Americas) reputation and legitimate rights and interests, China Unicom added.
