A blue book on corporate social responsibilities for Chinese coal mining industry was released by the China National Coal Association in Beijing on Thursday.

The book noted that China's mining companies' CSR level is still at an early stage of development with an index of 38.9, lagging behind the military sector, banking, electricity, real estate, and three others.

A total of 51 coal companies released reports of corporate social responsibility during the launch ceremony of the blue book.

Sun Shouren, deputy head of the association, said the industry has ramped up efforts promoting a more environmentally friendly coal mining mechanism, improving waste treatment capabilities, and implementing ecological restoration at designated mines.

The industry has also stepped up efforts ensuring safe mining in recent years, Sun said.

Last year, China increased its coal production capacity by about 300 million metric tons, and the mortality rate per million tons of coal mined nationwide has dropped to 0.044, which is the lowest in history, according to Sun.
