Residents relocated after dike breach
A total of 6,393 residents were relocated after a swollen river burst its dike in Northeast China's Liaoning province on Monday, local authorities said. The Raoyang River in the city of Panjin was hit by two successive rainstorms in July, according to the city's publicity department. The flood was the most severe ever recorded, according to Panjin's department of meteorology and hydrology. The breach occurred at 10:30 am on Monday. The city's flood control headquarters initiated an emergency flood control response and sent 2,680 rescuers and 320 engineering and transport vehicles to the site. Materials such as sandbags and timber were also allocated to the site. As of 7 pm, the 6,393 residents had been safely relocated. No casualties have been reported and rescue efforts are ongoing.
Criminal cases linked to agriculture solved
China's public security departments have solved more than 8,800 agriculture-related criminal cases since January 2021, the Ministry of Public Security said. The criminal activities targeted include damaging farmlands, using farmlands for non-agricultural purposes, and producing and selling counterfeit or sub-standard agricultural resources. Such activities are deemed to pose threats to the country's grain production. China's public security organs will continue to curb such criminal activities with zero tolerance, so as to better safeguard food security, an official from the ministry said.
