J&T Express began express services in Brazil on Tuesday, a major step in the company's efforts to expand logistics services in the Latin American market.

J&T Express, a fast-growing company established in 2015, has set up a logistics network covering all 26 states and one federal district in the South American nation.

It is the second country the company has offered services to in Latin America, following Mexico in February.

"J&T Express attaches great importance to expanding in the Latin American market, and the launch in Brazil is an integral step in having a presence in the region," said Charles Hou, the company's vice-president. "The success of the networks launched in Mexico and Brazil within a short time frame further demonstrates the benefits of the regional sponsorship model in our global expansion."

He added, "It is also important for the company to continue to further cultivate emerging markets and expand its strategic global footprint."

The company's parcel delivery network has already extended to 12 countries in Latin America and Asia, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country. It is also the largest economy in Latin America, with the biggest, most developed e-commerce market in the region.

"Compared with countries and regions with well-established e-commerce and logistics businesses, the Brazilian market is developing rapidly with a great potential for further growth," said Andy Wang, head of the company's Brazil office. "We believe J&T Express is well positioned to leverage its determination and capabilities in building local operations to establish a refined service network in Brazil and provide local customers with an efficient, convenient and quality logistics experience.

"Meanwhile, we have also partnered with J&T International to provide one-stop cross-border services to e-commerce merchants, which primarily include customs clearance, overseas warehousing and last-mile delivery."

The rapidly growing e-commerce market presents significant opportunities for the express logistics industry. According to the Brazilian Electronic Commerce Association, e-commerce sales in Brazil grew 74 percent last year compared with 2019.

China has urged leading parcel delivery companies to operate abroad to improve international networks and build major hubs.

Ma Junsheng, head of the State Postal Bureau of China, said he has long urged parcel delivery companies to set their sights on foreign markets.

China's parcel delivery business has undergone rapid development over the past decade. Last year, the sector handled more than 100 billion parcels, ranking No 1 in the world in terms of volume.
