Campaign to curb medical insurance fraud rakes in 50.6 billion yuan
China recovered about 50.6 billion yuan ($8 billion) of medical insurance funds related to fraud from 2018 to October, officials said on Wednesday.
The country also inspected about 2.34 million medical institutions and handled cases involving about 1 million of them, the National Healthcare Security Administration said during a news briefing.
In April, the administration, the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Public Security jointly launched a campaign aimed at cracking down on fraud related to medical insurance funds.
By the end of November, public security authorities had busted 310 gangs involved in fraud and arrested about 4,100 criminals. They had also solved nearly 1,700 cases and recovered about 370 million yuan of medical insurance funds.
The administration added that the campaign, previously scheduled to end by this month, has been extended to run through December 2022.
