Cosmetics giant L'Oreal has established an academician working station in Shanghai, advancing the application of technology elements in the skincare industry.

Named the L'Oreal Academician Working Station, the facility will combine resources from both L'Oreal and the research team led by Chen Saijuan, an academician and renowned cytogeneticist at the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The initiative aims to promote the integration, coordination, and innovation of beauty and healthcare. It also represents the first Fortune 500 foreign company to establish a collaborative working station in Shanghai.

Fabrice Megarbane, L'Oreal's president for the North Asia Zone and CEO of L'Oreal China, said the open innovation model can be best summarized in three keywords: breakthrough, synergy and talent.

"With the creation of an academician working station, in the future, we will continue to embrace open innovation to empower ourselves and the broader ecosystem, so (as) to make more contributions to future of beauty, creating more disruptive and innovative beauty solutions to make people's lives more beautiful," he said during the launch ceremony.

Under the guidance of the Shanghai Association for Science & Tech, L'Oreal China will also set up a special award called For Girls in Science in the city's science and technology innovation competition targeting the youth.

Shanghai is L'Oreal's North Asia headquarters. The company has a track record of infusing technology into skincare products and solutions, hosting a number of local campaigns to draw science talent and foster joint innovation.
