A huge oil field in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region with an estimated total reserve of 1 billion tons saw its total output surpass 7.68 million tons, according to the Xinjiang branch of China National Petroleum Corp.

The production capacity of the oil field in Junggar Basin has also exceeded 6.78 million tons by September since it was discovered in 2017, it said.

To offset the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Xinjiang branch has ensured the smooth production and operation of the oil field with measures such as optimized construction sequences and timely material supply.

The oil field in the Mahu Area was discovered in late 2017, and its naphthenic crude is believed to be a rare variety of crude oil.
