China launches village fire safety survey
The China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation has launched a fire safety survey that will cover thousands of traditional villages nationwide in order to identify and eliminate potential risks. Village officials will complete online questionnaires and some villages will be selected for in-depth investigation, said the foundation, a nonprofit organization supervised by the National Cultural Heritage Administration. The results will help establish a fire safety database for traditional villages that will provide a reference for future fire safety measures in accordance with local conditions.
Yellow alert for heavy rainstorms renewed
The National Meteorological Center has renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms in southwestern parts of the country, calling on Sunday for precautionary measures. From 2 pm Sunday to 2 pm Monday, heavy rain is expected in parts of Chongqing and the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan, with up to 230 millimeters of rainfall likely in some areas. The national observatory has advised local authorities to remain alert for possible flooding, landslides and mudslides, and recommended halting outdoor activities in hazard-prone areas.
