Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has stressed efforts to steadfastly implement the Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct.

He made the remarks while presiding over a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which was held in Beijing from Thursday to Friday.

Xi urged members of the Political Bureau to play an exemplary role for the whole Party in enhancing Party consciousness and improving Party conduct.

The meeting was held in accordance with the Party's traditional practice of criticism and self-criticism, in which Party members reflect on their own performance while providing comments on those of others.

Starting in 2015, the Political Bureau has made it a routine practice to hold such annual sessions at the end of the year in order to promote intra-Party democracy and supervision.

This year's meeting centered on improving Party conduct, as a Party-wide education campaign to implement the central leadership's eight-point decision from March to July has prompted CPC members to yield new and notable achievements in improving conduct.

The eight-point decision is a set of rules adopted by the Party leadership in December 2012 to promote self-discipline, enforce strict governance and address chronic bureaucratic issues. It later expanded into a Party-wide initiative for all members to adopt its principles to improve governance conduct.

During the two-day meeting, members of the Political Bureau, the nation's top leadership, each made speeches, reflecting on their own thoughts and work and reviewing that of their colleagues.

Calling the meeting a fruitful one, Xi said it has enhanced the cohesion and capability of the Political Bureau, holding great significance for continuously opening up new prospects in advancing Chinese modernization.

Xi emphasized that officials must deepen their theoretical study and strengthen self-reflection in light of the Party's historical mission and their own responsibilities to be steadfast Marxists.

Highlighting the work style of seeking truth from facts, Xi urged officials to go deep into the grassroots level, listen to different voices, and grasp the actual situation.

They should take the lead in opposing formalities for formalities' sake and foster an environment that values solid work and actual results, he added.

They should act with a sense of responsibility and have the courage to take on difficult tasks and shoulder heavy responsibilities within their duties, Xi said.

Leading officials — high-ranking ones in particular — should be self-disciplined, remain steadfast in implementing the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct, and willingly act in accordance with rules and regulations, he said.

They should uphold virtue and self-respect, maintain integrity, oppose any thoughts or acts of privilege and discipline those around them responsibly, he added.
