Tibet weather services bring satisfaction to residents
All the counties of Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region have enjoyed meteorological services, and over 85 percent of respondents have expressed their satisfaction with public meteorological services in 2020, the Tibet Meteorological Bureau said on Tuesday.
The region has been witnessing breathtaking changes with meteorology development over the seven decades since the region's peaceful liberation in 1951, the bureau said at a news conference on Tuesday to introduce the region's meteorological development over the last few decades.
"Tibet is a major source of China's major rivers; it is also the regulator of climate changes in Asia or even the northern hemisphere, and it is one of the most sensitive areas on earth in regard to global climate change," said Xiang Yuyi, the head of the bureau.
In 1951, the region established its first standard meteorological station. To date, the region has 1,009 various meteorological observation stations, all the region's townships have been covered with ground weather station services, and ground meteorological observation work has realized full automation.
"Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, all the region's 74 counties and 695 townships have reached full coverage of fine weather forecasting, and the forecasts' timeliness has also been reduced from the past 24-hour station forecast to the present 3-hour," Xiang said.
"The weather situation is updated every 10 minutes now."
