BEIJING -- Chinese police have cracked a human smuggling case and detained 78 suspects, the National Immigration Administration said Friday.
Police discovered a human smuggling ring had recruited people in around 20 provincial-level regions across China by placing online advertisements for well-paid jobs aboard, the administration said in a press release.
The ring planned to smuggle the recruits abroad to work for online gambling and telecom fraud organizations, the statement said.
Police in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region launched a raid on June 5 and detained 78 suspects, including the recruits, it said.
