5.1-magnitude quake hits SW China's Yunnan: CENC

BEIJING -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Shuangbai county in Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture of Southwest China's Yunnan province at 7:46 pm (Beijing Time) Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter was monitored at 24.34 degrees north latitude and 101.91 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 8 km, the center said.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, but authorities are further checking the situations and rescue forces are rapidly assembling, according to the Chuxiong prefecture emergency management bureau.
Residents of the Shuangbai county seat said the quake was strongly felt but did not last long. The quake was also felt in the provincial capital of Kunming.
