ByteDance education arm promotes family-friendly technology
Technology will let students have leaner autonomy and motivation and at the same time, make family education more efficient, according to industry insiders.
"A good educational technology product should not just be a tool, but leverage the power of technology and products to help the family and the growth of each child," said Yang Luyu, founder of intelligent business Dali, the education business arm of tech giant ByteDance.
Yang said the team hopes to help students act on their own and be confident and loving, which also is part of the team's mission and product vision.
"Through research and development, we found that when parents give their children enough space, encouragement and help, they start to have a sense of acting on their own and a sense of responsibility," Yang said.
Dali has already launched a smart light lamp with a display and artificial intelligence-based camera that will let parents tutor their kids via video. It also has a medal system that is aimed at encouraging children with motivational functions.
"The essence of family education is not knowledge, but life education, which is to cultivate good living habits and a correct outlook on life," said Zhu Yongxin, deputy secretary-general of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body.
They made the remarks at a conference held by China Youth Daily and Dali, which marked this year's International Day of Families on Saturday.
"Companies and industry insiders should work together to build a children-friendly digital society to promote educational equity, and enhance their autonomy and self-drive," said Sun Hongyan, head of youth and children research at the China Youth & Children Research Center.
