Increasing tariffs unilaterally is not in the interest of China nor the US, and harms the world, the Ministry of Commerce said.

The essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win results, said ministry spokesman Gao Feng.

"Both sides should resolve each other's legitimate concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment," the official said at a weekly news conference in Beijing on Thursday.

When asked if China is considering changing the chief of the Chinese side of the China-US comprehensive economic dialogue as the Wall Street Journal reported, Gao said this was not factual.
