BEIJING -- Chinese railway police arrested more than 1,100 ticket scalpers in January amid a special offensive against illegal and criminal behavior, the Ministry of Public Security said Monday.
Railway police nationwide cracked over 900 cases involving train tickets, seizing about 4,200 genuine tickets and 70,000 fake tickets during the campaign, which was launched to ensure smooth travel during the Spring Festival holiday, the ministry said.
During operations targeting theft, robbery and fraud, they solved more than 2,000 criminal cases, dismantling 87 crime rings and detaining 730 suspects, the ministry added.
