CBA Roundup: Zhejiang edges Shandong, Qingdao beats Guangzhou
ZHUJI, China -- Gao Shiyan of the Shandong Heroes threw an air ball beyond the arc before the final when facing the Zhejiang Golden Bulls on Tuesday, sealing a 120-119 win against Shandong here in the ongoing 2020-2021 Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) regular season.
Sylven Landesberg of Zhejiang led both sides with 55 points, plus six rebounds. Liu Zeyi reached a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. After snatching the victory, the Golden Bulls sit in third place in the 19-team table.
Zhejiang had a 10-3 point dash at the beginning of the clash. Although Shandong found its pace, the Heroes trailed by eight points after one quarter. Shandong kept chasing in the second period and trailed 56-50 before the half break.
Tao Hanlin, one of the best local insiders, was ejected in the third period because of six fouls, damping Shandong's hopes of turning the game around.
Troy Gillenwater had 29 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals in the game, helping the heroes bring the rivals into a close game in the final period. But Gao, who added nine points and seven assists, missed the buzzer-beater.
In the other game played on Tuesday, the Qingdao Eagles outscored the Guangzhou Loong Lions 116-111 for their third consecutive win.
Guangzhou led Qingdao 56-53 in the first half, but Dakari Johnson contributed 25 of 44 points and eight of 19 rebounds to Qingdao in the second half, making the Eagles' fortune suffer a total reversal.
In the game, Lin Weihan of Qingdao had a triple-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.
