China reinforces people's livelihoods ahead of holiday

BEIJING -- As the traditional Spring Festival holiday approaches, China is strengthening efforts to ensure the livelihoods of people living in difficult circumstances.
The General Office of the State Council has issued a circular in this regard. It outlines a set of measures to ensure the basic needs of disadvantaged people are met during the holiday.
The circular urges localities and relevant departments to secure adequate food supplies and stable market prices. It also requires provincial governors and city mayors to ensure grain security and food supplies, respectively.
According to the document, assistance funds, including subsistence allowances, should be allocated in time with the full amount. Holiday allowances or interim living supplements can be provided in certain circumstances.
The circular also calls for efforts to guarantee a livelihood for people stricken by disasters and the COVID-19 epidemic.
