Construction of new e-sports center gets underway

The Shanghai International NCC& E-sports Center started construction on Monday.
Upon completion in 2023, the center will be one of the world's largest e-sports facilities. It will have a capacity of 6,000 people, an e-sports themed hotel, a performing center, an e-sports museum and a pavilion where visitors can experience cutting-edge technologies.
The main investor of the new e-sports center is Guangzhou Super Gen Investment Co Ltd, the parent company of the well-known Chinese e-sports club EDG. First-phase investment for the new e-sports center is expected to exceed 5 billion yuan ($774 million), with the total investment likely to be more than 10 billion yuan.
Located in western Shanghai's Hongqiao area, the 500,000-square-meter e-sports center is aiming to become a landmark that combines e-sports, development and distribution of games, technology development, new media and movies. The ultimate goal is for the center to forge a holistic ecosystem for the e-sports industry, according to Super Gen.
