Woman, 80, gets cake to mark robotic surgery success

Then she was diagnosed with lung cancer and doctors advised her to have an operation immediately.

However, Liu was concerned about the risks due to her old age.

Hu elaborated on the necessity of operation and introduced that the Da Vinci surgical robot could help control surgical trauma to a minimum.

Liu accepted Hu's suggestion after consideration.

On Dec 14, with the help of the fourth-generation Da Vinci surgical robot with a 3D high-definition vision system, Hu spent eight hours completing the operation on Liu.

"The tumor was completely resected with minimal bleeding," Hu said. "She also became the oldest patient to receive robotic surgery in our hospital."
