For more than nine years, Xu Dongfang has been assisting more than 20 blind people over age 70 with their daily lives and activities in the Zhinong community of Wuhan, Hubei province.

It's not easy for blind elderly people to go out, even for simple things, such as buying food or taking a walk. But there's strength in numbers: They usually go out together to keep each other company.

In a campaign to improve people's lives, the Wuhan government has been providing home services for disabled people five hours per week since 2011.

Xu, 53, is a caregiver who works for a local company that provides services for the elderly.

"Xiao Xu is very considerate. When we are out for a walk, she always reminds me of the steps in front and holds my hand," said Dong Guirong, one of blind elderly residents of Zhinong community.
