Chinese shares close mixed Wednesday


BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed mixed Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.07 percent at 3,449.38 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.22 percent higher at 13,961.58 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 881 billion yuan ($134.3 billion), up from 865 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Investors saw a slight pullback in liquor and defense shares, while coal, steel and brokerage stocks rose across the board.
Xinjiang Yilite Industry Co Ltd, a liquor maker, retreated 4.13 percent to end at 22.08 yuan per share.
Zhengzhou Coal Industry and Electric Power Co Ltd rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 4.51 yuan apiece.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, fell 0.57 percent to close at 2,682.97 points.
