LONDON - Liverpool dropped two more points in their battle to retain the Premier League title after Pascal Gross scored an injury-time penalty to give Brighton a 1-1 draw in Saturday lunchtime's clash between the two sides.

Hosts Brighton had already missed a penalty after 20 minutes after Neal Maupay fired wide following a foul on Aaron Connelly and Mohamed Salah was denied a goal by the VAR for Liverpool for offside before another Diogo Jota goal looked to have set Liverpool on the way for three points.

The Portuguese forward scored his eighth goal in eight games after dancing past two challenges and firing home a low shot after 60 minutes, but deep in injury time the VAR decided Andrew Robertson had caught Danny Welbeck and Gross made no mistake.

Manchester City got back to winning ways as Pep Guardiola's side thrashed struggling Burnley 5-0 in the Ethiad Stadium for the fourth year in succession. Riyad Mahrez scored a hat-trick with goals in the sixth, 22nd and 69th minute, while Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres finished off the rout with goals in the 41st and 68th minute.

Raphiniha's 79th minute goal (his first for Leeds United) decided a chaotic game between Everton and Leeds United and gave the visitors three vital points to end a result of poor results in a match that either of the two teams could have won.

Connor Gallagher's 16th minute goal gave West Brom their first win of the season at the expense of Sheffield United, who remain bottom of the table without a win and with just four goal from 10 matches.

Sheffield rallied strongly in the closing minutes and should have salvaged a point but for incredible misses from Rhian Brewster and Lys Mousset in the sixth minute of injury time.
