Uruguay duo test positive for coronavirus after World Cup qualifier
MONTEVIDEO - The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) reported two new coronavirus cases in the national squad on Wednesday, a day after the Celeste's 2-0 defeat to Brazil in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Rentistas defender Alexis Rolin and Los Angeles FC forward Diego Rossi were ordered to self-isolate along with five officials who also tested positive.
"They are all fine and the appropriate health protocols have been implemented," the AUF said in a statement.
The AUF had already reported three positive cases in the national squad, with Luis Suarez, Rodrigo Munoz and Matias Vina forced to withdraw from the match against Brazil after contracting the virus.
More than 4,000 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Uruguay, 68 of whom have died.
