Beijing's Fengtai district has built 16 parks along the capital's south-central axis in the past three years, adding new green areas of 570,000 square meters.

According to authorities of Fengtai, a district in southern Beijing, several wholesale markets and construction material malls have been removed since 2018, with the land converted into parks.

For instance, Nanchengnanyuan Wetland Park, was once home to a cluster of 45 wholesale markets selling clothes, cloth, curtains, shoes and other small daily items. Now the area is green, with trees, lakes and flowers.

Over the past five years, Beijing has launched more than 100 projects focusing on cultural relics along its 7.8-kilometer central axis, officials from the Beijing Administration of Cultural Heritage said.

The projects include the relocation of non-capital functions, renovations of ancient architecture and improved management of streets and alleys. Some of the renovation projects have already completed.
