BEIJING -- The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) Wednesday imposed a two-match suspension on Beijing Ducks small forward Wang Xiaohui for his tripping move in a match against the Guangdong Southern Tigers.

Beijing lost to Guangdong 111-107 in CBA's eighth-round game on Tuesday. With 2.7 seconds on the clock, Wang, who had missed two straight 3-pointer attempts, intentionally tripped Guangdong's Sonny Weems when the latter was poised for a fast break.

An injured Weems was unable to continue his play before the match referee gave Wang a marching order. Wang's action was deemed as a grave breach against the sports spirit.

Apart from a notice of criticism, the CBA league inflicted a one-game ban on Wang, and his ejection has triggered an automatic one-match suspension. It means that Wang will miss out on games on Thursday and Saturday.

Wang was also fined RMB 50,000 yuan (7,515 U.S. dollars).

CBA called on clubs to conduct continuous education on players to ensure that games are competed in a fair and civilized fashion, also emphasizing that it will impose stringent punishments towards those unsportsmanlike and other inappropriate actions.

The league's governing body ruled that Yuan Jun, deputy general manager of the Guangdong club, had some inappropriate words about the game on social media, thus triggering a fine of RMB 10,000 yuan (1,503 U.S. dollars) on Yuan.
