Official data shows container throughput at Shanghai Port hit a record high of 4.2 million TEUs in October, a year-on-year increase of 15.7 percent.

Gu Changshi, director of the investment promotion service center at the Lingang Special Area, said on Tuesday it's the first time the monthly container throughput exceeded 4 million at the port.

"China has a complete industrial chain and optimized economic structure, and is one of the fast-growing markets across the globe. The rigorous prevention and control measures domestically have facilitated economic recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic, which boosted the surge in domestic and foreign trade," Gu said.

He added further opening-up and policy innovation have helped Shanghai attract shipping resources worldwide, as well.

"We will also continue to promote container transportation services for domestic trade in the future," Gu said.

The fourth phase of the Yangshan Deep-Water Port in Shanghai, the world's largest automated cargo terminal, was working on Tuesday.
