Shanghai's Chenshan Botanic Garden wins national accolade
The Chenshan Botanic Garden in Shanghai was awarded the 2020 National Award of Botanic Garden Excellence at the annual industry conference which took place in Shenyang of Liaoning province from Oct 10-13.
Located in the city's Songjiang district, Chenshan Botanic Garden was founded 10 years ago.
The Botanic Garden Conference of China was attended by representatives from about 200 institutions across the country. Founded by the conference's organizing committee, the national award is the highest award in the industry nationwide.
Chenshan Botanic Garden won the award this year because of its outstanding achievements in "protecting biological diversity, sustainable utilization, scientific research, flora conservation, public education and landscape gardening", according to Prof Hong Deyuan, a researcher with the institute of botany under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
As the East China flora conservation center for endangered botanic resources, Chenshan Botanic Garden has built a big data bank, made primary evaluations about the spread and conditions of endangered botanic resources in China.
