BEIJING -- World Table Tennis (WTT) held a video conference on Monday night to inform all ITTF member associations of latest updates ahead of the ITTF Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled on September 28.

In his opening speech, WTT Council Chair Liu Guoliang, who is also president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, said, "With World Table Tennis, we are working towards the next step: to create a new table tennis landscape and make it one of the world's largest sports properties. This has always been my dream."

Liu, who boasted a stellar playing career, was named WTT chief in June.

"World Table Tennis was born, as the times require, and predictably, this is the perfect opportunity to create great value for the sport, and to demonstrate the true value of the top players and fans," he stated.

Liu also promised to organize WTT events across the globe, and strive to tap a huge potential market while remaining committed to hosting WTT events in all continents.

"We will also invest and actively explore how to develop global markets, setting up offices in different countries (and regions) to explore more business opportunities and further establish training centers for future stars.

"We will make table tennis events and activities more attractive to the media, giving the sport greater global exposure. Our ultimate goal is to develop and improve table tennis worldwide, and spurred by my deep passion for the sport, I will do my best to make WTT a success," said the Chinese table tennis legend.

WTT was set up by the ITTF in August 2019 with the aim of modernizing its commercial business activities and helping table tennis to compete with the world's highest-profile sports.
