China's first cultural innovative zone celebrates a half-decade of progress

China's first national cultural innovative zone released a report on Sept 6 at the 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services, detailing achievements in various fronts over the past five years.

The report, jointly released by Beijing's Chaoyang district and the Cultural Development Research Institute of the Communication University of China, serves as a model for developing cultural industries all over the country.

At present, 34,800 cultural enterprises are registered at the zone, an increase of 18,800 from five years ago.

What's more, 620 enterprises (projects) have received financial support worth a total of 320 million yuan ($46.8 million) from the innovative zone.

Under the "culture plus" strategy, the zone has vigorously promoted the innovative application of high-tech developments such as 5G, AI and big data in the cultural field, building a high-end industrial system supported by media, digital content and e-sports games.

In 2019, a total of 442 cultural enterprises in Chaoyang district were credited as high-tech enterprises, accounting for 11 percent.

Covering the CBD area and Dingfuzhuang in Beijing, the zone was established in December 2014.
