To pepper the event with a more Mexican flavor, the Mexican embassy in China has invited two Mexican dancers from The Colors of Mexico, a Shanghai-based Mexican folkloric dance group, to perform.

They will dance to Mariachi music, an Intangible Cultural Heritage recognized by UNESCO in 2011. “A centuries-old and significant part of the Mexican cultural fabric, Mariachi music is often played on festive occasions by a large band consisting of violin, trumpet, guitar, saxophone, flute, accordion and harp players,” explained Tania Lara, cultural attaché with the Embassy of Mexico.
