Alaves confirm Lopez Muniz will not continue as first team coach

MADRID - Deportivo Alaves confirmed on Tuesday that Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz will not continue as their first-team coach for next season.
Muniz arrived at the club on July 6 following the sacking of Asier Garitano with just four matches left in the season and with the single goal of saving the club from relegation.
Although Alaves lost his first game in charge and could only draw at home to Getafe in his second match, a 2-1 win away to Betis in the penultimate round of matches was enough to assure the club from Vitoria's place in La Liga for a fifth consecutive season.
Alaves relaxed in their last game and with nothing to play for, lost heavily 5-0 at home to Barcelona, after which the coach implied in his press conference that he would not be extending his agreement for the 2020-21 season.
The news was confirmed on the club website with a communique stating that "without the work of Lopez Muniz and his technical staff, the permanence of the club in the elite would not have been possible. You will always be welcomed in Vitoria and at Deportivo Alaves."
