Bolivian football chief Salinas dies at 58
LA PAZ - Bolivian Football Federation (FBF) President Cesar Salinas died on Sunday at the age of 58.
No details were given of his death, however, local media reported that he was placed in intensive care on Thursday after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Bolivian first division club The Strongest said that Salinas and his wife, Ines Quispe, had tested positive for the virus.
"With immense sadness, the Bolivian Football Federation regrets to announce the untimely passing of our president," read an FBF statement.
"His contribution to Bolivian football will be remembered, as will his undoubted human qualities as a father, husband and friend."
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) also paid its respects in a message posted on Twitter.
"We express our deepest condolences to his family, friends and FBF colleague," it said.
