Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Chinese mainland expanded 8.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, the Ministry of Commerce announced Thursday.

China strongly opposes Britain's decision to exclude Chinese enterprises from its 5G network construction, said Gao Feng, the ministry's spokesman.

The decision has abandoned the free trade policy, Gao told reporters, adding China is making an evaluation and will take necessary measures to protect Chinese enterprises' legitimate rights and interests.
