Sun's 24 points inspires Royal Fighters past Sichuan in CBA


QINGDAO, China - Sun Yue got 24 points and four assists on Thursday, helping the Beijing Royal Fighters edge the Sichuan Blue Whale 78-73 in the 2019-20 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.
As both sides played with all-domestic squads; Beijing made an 8-0 run with Sun Yue's two three-pointers into the game.
With a Zuo Zhennian three-pointer in the second quarter, Sichuan narrowed the gap within 10 points. Beijing center Sun Tonglin had a three-point performance, helping them take a 42-32 lead into the second half.
Sichuan didn't give up and almost tied the game in the third quarter. With a Sun Yue buzzer-beater, Beijing led by four points into the last quarter and widened it to 10 with a 6-0 run. Sichuan missed several jump shots later on, only to see Beijing keep their edge till the end.
"We played not good tonight, while Sichuan behaved indomitable and positive," said Sun Tonglin.
"It was a tough game without foreign players. We played differently tonight and it's a big test for our Chinese players. Sun Yue played a great game and carried us tonight," said Beijing's head coach Stephon Marbury.
