Polish ski jumper Malysz tests positive for COVID-19
WARSAW - Poland's legendary ski jumper Adam Malysz said on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Malysz won four Olympic medals during the course of his career, standing on the podium twice at both Salt Lake City in 2002 and Vancouver in 2010. He also took four gold medals at the Nordic World Championships and now serves as sporting director of Poland's national team.
On Monday, the 43-year-old informed the media that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
"I had no symptoms at all so I thought I was healthy. I had been sure that the result of the test would be negative. I had felt really great and I got such an unpleasant gift. I contacted a person who tested positive but I might as well have been infected elsewhere. I always followed the safety rules," Malysz was quoted as saying by Polish site Onet Sport.
"Some procedures have already started, including quarantine and informing people I met with. Everyone who has had contact with me recently should take examinations and take the necessary precautions in such circumstances. I follow the safety rules, but it turns out that this is not enough. My case should be a kind of warning to you. Take care of yourself and be careful," wrote the former ski jumper on social media.
Poland's national team has asked all its ski jumpers to be tested.
