Zhong Nanshan, a leading respiratory expert, highly praised a medical team consisting of his hospital colleagues in supporting Central China's Hubei province in the fight against COVID-19 in recent months.

The medical team from the First Affiliate Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, composed of Zhang Nuofu, the hospital's deputy president, and seven other senior doctors and nurses, worked in Hubei province for more than two months. They returned back to the hospital on Wednesday after a 14-day quarantine.

"The medical team has dedicated themselves to every COVID-19 patient in the past weeks, and contributed their wisdom and strength in the fight against the pandemic," Zhong said. He hugged every one of them and welcomed them back to the hospital.

"The medical team supporting hardest-hit Hubei province has shown the spirit and the technical strength of our hospital and the city of Guangzhou," he told the medical team members. "And you are models for other medical staff and have gained respect and trust from the government and the public with your great efforts and hard work."

Zhong said the fight against COVID-19 has yet to be completed and he hopes they will continue to make their great efforts.

"We need to continue to work together with foreign healthcare workers on the frontline in the fight against the pandemic," he added.
