OnePlus unveils its latest premium 5G smartphone

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus unveiled its latest premium 5G smartphone OnePlus 8 series, as the company scrambles to lure consumers with cutting-edge devices.

The move comes as OnePlus steps up push to better build brand awareness in its home turf after it made a splash in overseas markets.

Priced from 5,399 RMB ($765), OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a 120Hz-refresh-rate display, which is designed to offer customers a smoother and more vivid watching experience. It is powered by Snapdragon 865 chip and state-of-the-art cameras.

Liu Zuohu, founder and CEO of OnePlus, said the firm has put big efforts into developing the quality of its smartphones, to gain a bigger presence in the high-end market.

Overseas markets account for about 70 percent of OnePlus' sales. Data from the market research company Counterpoint show that OnePlus is the number four player in the global premium smartphone market, after Apple, Huawei and Samsung. The company is now working to lure more Chinese consumers.
