The two exchanges conducted several bilateral visits and held in-depth discussions about capital market cooperation last year, but Wang Jianjun, chairman of SZSE, highlighted signing the agreement during the pandemic demonstrated the significance of mutual assistance and cooperation in overcoming difficulties.

"The more challenging the situation becomes, the closer our cooperation needs to be," Wang noted.

Datuk Shireen, chairman of Bursa Malaysia, said the MoU is only the start of their sustainable partnership and offered her advice in preparation for economic recovery.

"One of the first steps we are looking into after COVID-19 is supply chain discussion for the Belt and Road Initiative with Malaysian companies," she added, "and we should also launch the roadshow to promote cooperation, which will enhance the growth of the companies listed on our exchanges and encourage investment."
