Migu Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Mobile Communications Corp, said on Wednesday it will partner with the Chinese Basketball Association to jointly build a 5G laboratory and explore how to leverage the super-fast wireless technology to empower sports.

The move is part of a broader strategic deal the two sides inked to deepen their partnership and bring China's professional basketball games into the 5G era.

Migu said the two sides will work together to bring immersive watching experiences to basketball enthusiasts using 5G technology.

Under the deal, Migu will also become strategic digital media partner of the CBA for the next five years.

CBA chairman Yao Ming highlighted China Mobile and Migu's capabilities in digital content operation, innovative 5G technologies and channel advantages, saying the two sides will complement each other.

Jian Qin, vice president of China Mobile, said the 5G laboratory will help drive innovation in commercial models by exploring 5G-powered live streaming. Putting CBA on cloud technologies will also help popularize basketball culture in China.
