The Potala Palace launches live broadcast

"The interpreter also can interact with the audience from time to time, and the livestreaming can bring online users to places that are usually closed to visitors," Jondan said.

He said the livestreaming was part of the palace's effort to comply with a request by the State Bureau of Cultural Relics to promote museums and cultural sites and conduct online activities using digital informationd.

Hampered by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic, the palace announced a temporary closure in late January.

Built in the seventh century by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo, the Potala Palace is a big attraction for tourists and a treasure house of Tibetan culture, arts, religion and wisdom.
